They shook on it. The time for talk was over. It was time to put up or shut up. This time, it was for pink slips.

Dan was sweating as he got behind the controls. He looked over at Paul who had a cocky air of confidence about him that made this race even more important. Dan had to win.

Marlene stood between the two cars and raised a handkerchief. She dropped it and they were off.

Seconds later they were neck and neck nearing the far end of the block.

It was at that moment the police rolled up.

Highland Avenue, 12:43 a.m. Saturday Responding to a report of possible drag racing, police encountered kids with remote control cars and had them pack up and head home.
