Tree
By Grant Baciocco

Carl gnashed his teeth as he glared at Doris.  He realized his firsts were clenched and there was a small tickle in the back of his throat from the previous 15 minutes of yelling.

For her part, Doris stood with her arms crossed, eyebrow cocked and her, “I know I’m right smirk” on her face and stared right back at him.

The street, for a moment, was quiet.

Carl inhaled, then, thinking a change of tone was needed, said in a voice just above a whisper, “It’s an Elm.”

“IT’S AN OAK!” Doris raged throwing her hands in the air.

9:00 a.m. Neighbors on the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue disputed over a tree.

Pry
By Grant Baciocco

“I’m so sorry officer,” Danielle blushed, “I’m just completely embarrassed.”

Officer Roberts hooked his thumb into his belt, “No need to be embarrassed Mrs. Martinez.  I can see where you’d think that someone tried to pry open your rear screen door here, but I assure you, these marks are just dirt and spider webs.”

“Thank you, officer.” Danielle replied, “Sorry to waste your time.”

“Better safe than sorry.” Officer Roberts replied as they walked around the side of the house.

From the bushes a few feet away, the dirt and spiderweb monster watched them leave. He would wait until tonight.

1700 block of Toledo Avenue, 9:51 a.m. Tuesday A resident thought someone had tried to pry open the rear screen door. An officer responded and determined that the woman had confused dirt and spider webs present for pry marks.

Josh took a deep breath.  “I’m sorry.  I am sorry I ever left you.  I, I just don’t know what I was thinking.  I was foolish.  I thought there’d be something better out there but there isn’t.  There couldn’t be.  There couldn’t be anything better than right now, right here surrounded by you.  I can promise you, from the bottom of my heart, that I won’t leave again.  I’ve even requested late check out just so we can stay lost in each other, here a little longer to just be together.  I’m sorry and I’m so happy we are reunited.”

Old Bayshore Boulevard, 7:48 a.m. Sunday A hotel guest sleeping in the hallway was reunited with his room.

Where?
By Grant Baciocco

“I’m telling you David, it’s not here.” Elaine said, hands on her hips.

“It has to be.” Came David’s reply, his voice muffled as his face peering under the couch as they searched.

“Well, I’ve looked everywhere.  The garage, outside, in here but I can’t find it.”  Alain replied.

“If it was here we would see it.” David said, resigned.  “It must have been stolen.”

“Stolen?” Alain said incredulously.  “We’ve been here the whole time.”

“Well, I can’t explain it, but someone taking it the only logical reason why it’s not here now.” David said standing, “I’m calling the police.”

Lexington Way, 7:13 p.m. Oct. 21 A vehicle, originally reported stolen, was determined to have been misplaced.
