Paul had lived in the apartment below Professor Perkins for six months. It had been a long six months. Professor Perkins fancied himself an evil scientist and was always testing out inventions on poor Peter. Peter would have complained but for the most part, Professor Perkins’ inventions were never really too evil.
The doormat that turned to shaving cream when stepped on. The giant, but only slightly powerful, magnet that caused all the metal in Peter’s apartment to hover three feet of the ground. These were simply annoying.
His latest invention though, the Bed-Bumper-Outer, was the last straw.

Dear Sir

Dear Sir,
We have recently been made aware of your actions last Friday as it relates to Ms. Adams. We understand that Ms. Adams did bump into you causing you to roll out into oncoming traffic. We have been advised that she apologized for this and we do believe she is truly sorry.
While we understand that this situation made you quite frustrated, we feel that your actions in retaliation were not appropriate. We would like to strongly suggest that you modify your behavior in the future if you wish to continue visiting our city.

Escape

Terry realized his first mistake was leaving the kitchen door open. He’d opened the door to enjoy the early morning summer weather and now it had escaped. He ran into the backyard, it was empty. It was then he realized his second mistake, not reminding the gardner to close the gate.
In the front yard, he looked down the street to the west. Nothing. He looked to the east, towards the intersection that lead downtown. There he saw it just crossing the street, against the light. He ran. If it reached the stores, he’d never be able to find it.

They shook on it. The time for talk was over. It was time to put up or shut up. This time, it was for pink slips.
Dan was sweating as he got behind the controls. He looked over at Paul who had a cocky air of confidence about him that made this race even more important. Dan had to win.
Marlene stood between the two cars and raised a handkerchief. She dropped it and they were off.
Seconds later they were neck and neck nearing the far end of the block.
It was at that moment the police rolled up.
