100 Word Wednesdays – The Date
On time this week. Enjoy!
The Date
By Grant Baciocco
Marlene was several decades removed from the dating scene. True, her and Simon, rest his soul, had dated but that was before they were married at 17.
Here she was, 71, about to be taken on a date by a man she met in the supermarket three days ago. She’d put on a brand new flowery dress and a silver bracelet and had been standing by the door putting on her shoes as Walter had driven up out front.
That was 20 minutes ago. Walter had yet to leave his Buick. Marlene was nervous. Perhaps he was getting cold feet.

100 Word Wednesdays – Missing
Sorry this is late.
Missing
By Grant Baciocco
His keys were now missing. He’d had left them here on the entry hall table when he’d got home the night previous and now they were gone. He searched the pockets of the jeans he’d worn last night and they were empty.
He then raced to his study and pulled out the worn journal he kept in the desk drawer. He opened it to the last page and scribbled:
06/11/2012 – keys.
He looked at the entry and then flipped back through the journal to the first entry.
01/26/2000 – remote control.
This had gone on long enough.

100 Word Wednesdays – The Staring Contest
Time for another 100 Word Story based on an item from the police blotter from my hometown of Burlingame, CA.
The Staring Contest
By Grant Baciocco
Mrs. Clark stood on her front porch motionless, staring towards her front door. She’d stopped searching for her keys in her purse when she’d realized she was being watched. Now, frozen, she had locked eyes with her onlooker. He cooly stared back.
“How long have I been unaware that this was like this?” she thought to herself. She’d no way of knowing. His gaze upon her was unflinching as her’s upon him now was. After five minutes of staring she concluded they they couldn’t be real. But how did they get there? The ping pong eyes in her Christmas wreath.

7:41 a.m. A resident on the 2800 block of Easton Drive reported her christmas wreath had been vandalized.
Also this was partially based on something I did to my mother’s Christmas wreath back in 2009.
100 Word Wednesdays – Roger Makes A Change
Another 100 word story based on a Police Blotter piece from Burlingame, CA.
Roger Makes A Change
By Grant Baciocco
Roger felt good.
He hadn’t felt this good in a long time. He’d been battling a deep depression recently. A depression deeper than any he’d faced in his 87 years.
His friend Amanda would not let him give up. She had said, “Just change one thing. Just make one little change and you can change your whole outlook on life.”
So Roger decided to make a change in the way he dressed and it had worked. Here we was, walking down the street and people were noticing him. Smiling at him. Talking about him. Him and his brand new suspenders.

This one is a classic from the Burlingame Police Blotter.
I love my hometown.
